Background
Yukagir may be related to the Altaic or Uralic family. It has very few speakers out of an ethnic group of slightly over 1,000 people. There is a Northern (more widespread) and a Southern variety. Even and Russian are the literary languages. Most can speak Russian, Even and Yakut as second languages.
